Q: What is a book you didn't like that all your friends raved about or what book did you love that wasn't popular?
I really didn't care for Anna and the French kiss by Stephanie Perkins. You can find my review here if you are interested: review.
Everybody is so raving about Ćtienne and how sweet they are together. I was frustrated by all the drama and fuss they made when the solution was pretty obvious: break up with your girlfriend Ćtienne and kiss Anna already! The only thing I liked was the setting, but I must admit that I'm not a fan of the contemporary genre in general.
It isn't hard to find a book I love that isn't popular. A lot of books don't get the attention they deserve. It's so strange that some books get so hyped and others don't. Especially because the popular ones often disappoint. To pick a random book, Scarlet by A.C Gaughen. My review can be found here: review.
I still don't know why this book is so unknown. It is an original retelling of Robin Hood. Scarlet is a girl with a secret past and she is a kick ass girl. There is action, romance, mystery and a swoonworthy boy. Not to mention the pretty cover and the fact that it is going to be a trilogy.

Haven't read either. The first wasn't in my genre so it didn't get on my radar. The second just didn't entice me enough to want to read it. But that's the fun of blogging and reading, we all have different tastes!

Contemporary isn't also my genre, but I like to step out of my confort zone now and then. And that's a shame, because Scarlet is really good :D But you are right, that's what I love about blogging :)
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
my friend says either she's too old to be reading Perkins book, or she just didn't warm to the story. :)

DeleteHopping through. I adored Anna and the FK but I've heard similar complaints to yours. I really want to read Scarlet. Everyone raves about it.
ReplyDeleteMy Hop
Thanks for visiting my blog! I don't read a lot of contemporary romance, but there are SO many raves,I am going to give it a shot. In fact, I just saw Stephanie at an event recently and I bought signed copies of both Anna and Lola, so I hope I like them!

DeleteScarlet was really really good! I gave it 4 stars when I reviewed it! And I kinda get what you're saying about Anna too. I mean I liked the book, but I just didn't love it. I hate when guys are indecisive like that. He needed to get his stuff together.
ReplyDeleteI would probably never read Anna and the French Kiss because I am not that into contemporary. But I have Scarlet on my TBR list, it does look very good enough to read. New GFC Follower. Thanks for sharing and visiting my FF. =]
ReplyDeleteThanks for the follow :D
DeleteMy friends have been bothering me for AGES to read Anna. I still haven't though. Maybe it's for the best. LOL.
ReplyDeleteFollowing back via GFC!
I would say 'don't bother' but everybody must make up their own mind ;)
DeleteOoh, I do love Anna and the French Kiss, but I can definitely see where you're coming from!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Scarlet yet, but I definitely plan too. I LOVE the Robin Hood story. I'm glad you loved it.
I think you are going to love Scarlet!
DeleteI was wanting to read Scarlet..not sure now LOL
ReplyDeleteI've heard of Scarlet and it sounds awesome but I am not sure if I want to read it or not. I think I might. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree- many books I love are not "popular"- and quite a few popular ones just aren't for me. Thanks for visiting my blog!

I liked Scarlet pretty well, too, and I'm also surprised it hasn't had much exposure. Anna, though, was a book that I loved. I was surprised by how much I actually liked it as contemporary isn't always for me either. :)
ReplyDeletei haven't bothered to read Anna and the French Kiss, I like contemporaries but it has to have a certain something more than just romance to grab me. It is weird how certain books seem to grab all the hype and others don't - there is a serious research paper in there somewhere, waiting for someone! I've actually seen Scarlet all over the place but definitely not as much as some of the more popular books.
ReplyDeleteApril @ My Shelf Confessions
I didn't think I'd like Anna and the French Kiss, but I did :)
ReplyDeleteI don't usually like contemporaries but I did love that one. I will have to look into Scarlet. The cover is wonderful.

Heeeey, wat leuk! :D
DeleteTotally with ya there I was very under impressed with Anna and the French Kiss. Probably partially due to several friends over-hyping it. I liked it's sequel Lola and the Boy Next Door much better. And Scarlet is definitely on my list!

I'm planning to try Lola. If that doesn't work for me, I'm done with the author :)
DeleteI've had Scarlet on my TBR list forever. I've heard such good things about it. I can understand if you don't like contemporaries why Anna wouldn't be something you like. Thanks for stopping by my FF. New follower!
ReplyDeleteLisaILJ @ I’ll Tumble for YA
I've been wanting to read Scarlet for forever, but since my TBR list is so long, I'm only buying books that are on sale.
ReplyDeleteBut eventually, I will read it. :)
Thanks for stopping by my FF. I'm a new Networks Blog follower.
I have added Scarlet to my TBR right now :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my FF post earlier. Have a wonderful weekend.
Great :D
DeleteIt's funny that in the past, I used to find contemporary boring. Now I read them all the time LOL. xD I still haven't got time to read Anna and the French Kiss yet. Maybe I'm scared that I would end up disliking it haha. Scarlet sounds amazing anyway! I'll keep in mind to check it out later. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend, Mel! <3
I really want to read Scarlet! I love retellings!
ReplyDeleteEmily @ Counting in Bookcases
So glad to find a blogger who feels the same way! I kept hearing how so many people loved the Stephanie Perkins books. I do enjoy contemporary but I really didn't like her books. One of the reasons is definitely because I wish Etienne would just have broken up with his girlfriend instead of "cheating" with Anna, or Anna could've respected that he had a girlfriend already. I really enjoyed Scarlet, though! I also think A Long, Long Sleep could use more recognition, I adored that retelling! :)
ReplyDeleteAlice @ Alice in Readerland
Oh yeah, A long, long sleep was a great book! I loved it.
DeleteI've had Scarlet on my list since it came out. Someday I'll get to it. Thanks for visiting. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteHopping through! Wow, I just bought Anna and the French Kiss last month so my opinion on that is still TBA. But I'm hoping it's still worth it because I paid a pretty penny for it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by :)
Goldie @ My Book Musings
I really hope you end up loving it as much as most people do!
DeleteAhh, perfect post! Thank you for sharing. <3 I hated Anna. Really, truly disliked that book. There was NO ROMANCE. Just triangle shit. Yeah. I didn't enjoy it at all :p Didn't like the setting either, hih (A) And ohh. Scarlet was AMAZING. I loved it. <3 Just wish it hadn't been that triangle drama :( didn't like that at all. But oh. The second book, I think will be PERFECT. Hopefully no more of that triangle thing :p <3 Anyway. Great post :)
ReplyDeleteLike always, we have a very similar taste. Awesome :D
DeleteI really hated Etienne-as far as I'm concerned, he cheated on his girlfriend emotionally for months before kissing Anna made it physically cheating and I do not get the swoon at all.
ReplyDeleteExactly, and if there is one thing I can't stand, it's cheating.
DeleteI'm not that much into the contemporary genre either, and somehow I manage to escape reading this!
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by by blog!
