Monthly recap | February '14. Fish spa.

I always enjoy watching recaps from other bloggers, so that’s why I’ll be posting my own recaps. This wrap up is also my new ‘Showcase Sunday’ since I don’t have the time to do weekly hauls. Instead, I hope to capture it in vlogs every now and then.
OUAT
I started my minor Infection diseases and I really like it so far. We have a different topic every two weeks and we’re currently talking about epidemiology and statistics. The annoying thing is that the teacher randomly made the groups  and that never works out for me. So, I’m the only one from my old class that is in a group with exactly the 3 girls from other studies.. It’s going to be quite busy, with every week a presentation and a lot of articles I need to study. I’m also incredibly stressed out over the fact I need to find an internship for this year and 2 for next year.

My personal life was pretty good. I went to a scientific museum with my boyfriend for Valentine’s day, I had a Fish spa with my sister (tickles!), a great bookclub meeting (discussing A.C Gaughen – Scarlet) and I had another Prison Break Day with some friends.

Read
1. Rick Yancey – The 5th wave (1 out of 5)
2. Amalie Howard – The almost girl (1 out of 5)
3. Pierdomenico Baccalario – Suitcase of stars (3 out of 5)
4. Abby Grahame – Wentworth hall (3 out of 5)
5. Melanie Dickerson – The captive maiden (2 out of 5)
6. Ellen Hopkins Anthology – Grim (2 out of 5)
7. A.C Gaughen – Scarlet (re-read for Lady Thief, 5 out of 5 again)
8. Catherynne M. Valente – The girl who circumnavigated in Fairyland in a ship of her own making (3.5 out of 5)
9. Michael Mullin – TaleSpins (2 out of 5)
10. Cayla Kluver – The queen’s choice (2 out of 5)
11. Maria Snyder – Fire study (4 out of 5)
12. Maggie Stiefvater – The raven boys (4.5 out of 5!)
Watched
(This is only a short recap, I don’t post everything I’ve watched)
I finished season 3 from Sherlock and it’s hard to wait for more. I loved it! I finished season 3 from Awkward, which was hard, since Jenna was so stupid and annoying. I’m rewatching Prison Break with a couple of friends and we finished season 1.
I saw the newest episodes from Big Bang Theory, The originals, 2 broke girls and New girl.I started to watch The office and Hart of Dixie, both series I like. The office has my kind of humour.
I rewatched The hobbit part 2 (this time in 3d, was amazing) Gangster squad, Princess bride, Dumbo, Bambi, Cinderella, North & South and Thor: the dark world. If you’ve never seen Princess bride or North & South I highly recommend to change that. Hello Richard Armitage.
I watched 2 guns (meh), The last airbender (horrible), Smurfs 2 (cute), The hungover games (terrible) and Vampire Academy (hilarious bad. Funniest part were the reactions from the 2 guys)

Haul
I’m on a requesting ban and I’m trying to cut down the amount of books I buy, so I didn’t buy/requested anything this month! *proud*

I did won two books. I received Lady Thief from A.C Gaughen from A reader of fictions. I’m so excited! I absolutely loved Scarlet and my new improved review will be posted soon. I also was lucky enough to get These broken stars from the love-a-thon!

  1. I'm glad your month was amazing in terms of your personal life! Book-wise, though, I'm seeing a lot of low ratings. :o Lady Thief! I'm pretty excited for that one as well. :) And These Broken Stars... lovely novel. :)

    1. Yes, bookwise it wasn't the best month I've ever had.

  2. I'm so glad you had a good month :D I've never been to a fish spa, but I'm not sure if I'd like it. I should look into it and see if my mum wants to go for her birthday! I have yet to watch Vampire Academy, but to be honest I'm dreading it! Oh, and Gangster Squad! That sounds really good. You're doing so well with all your challenges.

    1. It's fun to do with someone else, I had a great time! Gangster squad is amazing and I normally don't like movies about the mafia.

  3. Blogger just ate my comment. I hate it when that happens! Basically, the gist of my comment was: the fish spa freaks me out, your study sounds really busy and hard but also fun, I'm glad you had a good month :D

    And LADY THIEF FEELS. Have fun with that one ;_;

    1. (and oh yeah, on Bloglovin', your posts don't show up fully, just until the 'read more' thingy but with no option to actually click it and read more. This doesn't sound very logical, but oh well.)

    2. Hey Mel, if you're wondering how to change this, just go to Blogger > Settings > Other > change Allow Blog Feed to Full.
It won't change your posts here, just in feed readers =)

    3. Thanks to both of you, I've changed it!

  4. Great post! Minor infectious diseases would be super interesting! I'm glad you had a good month personal-life wise, but it doesn't seem as though your reading month was a great one! I'm sorry you didn't enjoy The 5th Wave, I really liked it, though I do think the middle section didn't need to be that long. I got These Broken Stars for Christmas, so I'm excited to read that! I'm in the middle of reading Suitcase of Stars for review right now, so I'm glad you didn't think it was too bad! I really want to read Scarlet too!

  5. I'm currently reading These Broken Stars and I'm liking it a lot. I really want to see Vampire Academy but it's not playing in my local theatre and my friends don't want to see it. *anxiously waiting for the dvd*

  6. Wooot yay for Lady Thief! I got that too and I'm super excited to dive into it :)

Blergh The Last Airbender was just horrible! Nothing compared to the show.

  7. Hope everything works out school wise! That's one reason I'm glad to have university behind me - it's a beyond stressful time so hope everything chills for you soon :).
You've read lots of books this week, sorry to hear you wasn't overly keen on The Almost Girl! Great book haul too, I keep meaning to start the Gaughen books :)

I've always been tempted to go to a fish spa, but fish really freak me out. Yay for finishing season 3 of Sherlock! I watch Thor: The Dark World this week too :D
I still need to see the VA movie, but I'm really not looking forward to it. I really loved These Broken Stars so I'm excited to see what you think of it :)

  9. Oh, you spent your Valentine's day in a scientific museum, that's very creative. ;D From what I read, you had an awesome month. I wish I'm as determined as you when it comes to requesting books; I seem to cave in every time I see books I plan to read and up for request. I have weak will power. :P

  10. I really feel for you and the group thing and hate that you have that added stress. I hope it works out better than expected. :( I don't know how you do it all Mel - school, books, tv, boyfriend, friends. You're like superwoman. :) You'll make it through this semester and do great and then it will be all behind you :)

    Happy March!

  11. It sounds like you had a good month all in all... How do you manage to balance so much watching and so many books? I suck at that! Here's to another great month!

  12. Congrats on winning These Broken Stars, you'll have to tell me how it goes! I'm glad you had a good February and hope you have a great March as well! And fish spa! Sounds so cool and interesting but I don't know if I could get use to the idea of fish nibbling on my feet.

    1. I will let you know! And haha, the idea was a bit weird, but my feet were SO soft :D

  13. The VA movie was hilariously bad! I was never sure if I was laughing because it was awful or because it was actually funny in parts, haha

I'm reading The Raven Boys now, so I'm happy to see you give it such a high rating! I loved These Broken Stars, and I hope you do too!

  14. YAY,for infectious diseases starting! :) I hope everything goes well for you, but I totally agree.. I hate when groups are picked for you. That was probably my least favorite thing in University!

A FISH SPA! That's what your picture was on Instagram! I knew it was fish but I couldn't figure out how you went about having your feet in a tank with those fish lol. I'm going to google this... I haven't heard of it!

You got a ton of reading and shows watched, holy smokes! 79 episodes! I haven't watched this Sherlock show but a friend of mine says I need to watch it because it's exactly something I will like, so I may give it a try soon!

And HIGH FREAKIN FIVE to you for not buying/requesting any this month! Seriously... you deserve an award :) Congrats!!!!

You had a great month Mel, I hope March is just as pleasant to you <3

  18. Ohh I see lots of low rating books! That sucks ): At least your personal life has been good, and you read a few really good books! Hopefully March will be a better reading month for you! Great post Mel, I love monthly wrap up posts like this! (:

  21. I seriously need to get reading on the Scarlet series---it looks so good and its awesome to see that you recommend it so highly! These Broken Stars was awesome, one of my recent faves. Enjoy!
Aaaaa---Sherlock. I can't believe they are saying we have to wait something like two years for more. I love that show so much. I think I've watched each episode of season 3 three times already. Sign of Three was just awesome.

  22. You're work looks interesting! Ive always been fascinated by biology but I might faint at the sight of fungus haha
You are really good at keeping up with your challenges! I shall make you as my inspiration and try to put a dent in my piles!
Ooh, Vampire Academy was hilariously bad(after the shock wore off). I've been stuck on the first episode of Prison Break for ages! There is another parody for The Hunger Games called The Starving Games. It's ridiculous and I can't imagine anything worse.
I've heard great things about Scarlet and I really want to get the book right now!

  27. February was pretty great for us, too. :) I'm excited that you loved DREAM THIEVES! I am also excited that you got that fish manicure (I remember the Instagram photo), I've always been so curious about whether that works and how it would feel because I'm pretty ticklish.

  28. Woo, sounds like you had a great month (except for the stress - boo!)! You have a very impressive number of books read. Oh and congrats on maintaining your resolution to not request any more books right now! I've been doing quite well at that myself and hope to keep it up!

  30. I never liked random grouping on projects, it gets annoying sometimes. But I know you'll do great with the internships, a little stressing out is good.

Yay for Scarlet. I'll be reading Lady Thief soon and I'm nervous. These Broken Stars is a great, mind-blowing book, I know you'll enjoy it. I'm so happy that you loved The Raven Boys (I love the series as much as you love Throne of Glass). ;)

I used to love Awkward but Jenna is stupid sometimes. Sigh. I might start watching Hart of Dixie soon because I've been watching too much paranormal (namely Teen Wolf) lately.

And oh my God, the kiss in The Big Bang Theory just about popped my eyes out of their sockets.

I plan to watch Vampire Academy just so that Sandra and I can rip it to shreds. ;)

Here's to spring and an awesome reading month!

  32. I can't decide who I like better from the Hobbit, Richard Armitage or Aidan Turner. Armitage I know and LOVE from North & South because that is my OTP to end all OTPs. But Turner plays such an amazingly hot and brooding vampire in the BBC Being Human.

And then I ask myself, porque no los dos? ;)
