Top 10 Tuesday 33. Summer TBR pile.

My spring list was a big fail, like I expected, but I’m really going to take this summer TBR pile serious. Some of the books I wanted to read in spring are therefore back on this list – and this time I will get them done! I even made a vlog about the 18 already owned books I want to read. *clickedieclick if you are interested for my Summer TBR pile vlog* For the people who don’t like to watch vlogs, I’m going to list my top 12 here – with a little cheating of course. But hey, it’s less than the 18 in my vlog.

Top 12 books on my summer TBR pile

And a book I’m planning to buy, because everyone is raving about it: Brandon Sanderson – The final empire, part one of the Mistborn series. I’m always in a fantasy mood in the summer and I love the covers from this series.

    1. Based on the blurb and the things I've read about The goose girl, I think I will really love it too :D The Diviners is my book club pick for July, so now I 'have' to read it.

  3. THE FINAL EMPIRE!! whooop! That book is SOOO good! I hope you love it too!
Fire, Bitterblue (Po is back! <3) and The Diviners are great books too! You're going to have a great summer! :D

    1. Fun fact: in the german translation he is called Bo because Po means butt :D

  4. Daughter of the Flames sounds really interesting! The Winner's Curse is another one I want to get to before the end of the year. I'm being realistic here. There's no way I'll read it this summer!

  7. Heeyyyy, you did a vlog! I'll definitely go check it out once I publish this comment :D I never dare to do vlogs because my accent's funny and I'd probably talk too softly for anyone to hear, anyway. :P Back to the post: I can't wait to hear your thoughts on so many of these! I'm a little ashamed that I've only read TWO of the books you mentioned here, but oh well. I'm going to check out the others for sure!

    3. The Diviners -- YAY. I really enjoyed this one! It's a thick book, and a little slow at parts, but it delivered all the same. I loved how creepy things got, and while I didn't agree with the romance at all (I disliked the love interest for some reason), I was able to overlook it and enjoy the atmosphere and story of the book. I hope you like it!

    6. City of a Thousand Dolls -- For some reason, I really like the title for this. It's so intriguing, you know? And I've always had a fascination for dolls, especially those in horror books. I don't know where that curiosity stems from. Anyway, I haven't seen too many reviews for this book, but I checked out the blurb and thought it sounded really interesting, so I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. :)

    10. These Broken Stars -- Ooh, this one was so much better than I expected! I went into it expecting a mushy love story with not much sci-fi, but boy was I wrong. It does have romance, but it isn't unbearable, and the plot was pretty original. Plus, the cover totally lies. The only part where we see the MC in a full dress is probably the first chapter. xD

    11. The Winner's Curse -- GAH, I want to read this one SO BAD. Everywhere I look are all five-star reviews, which is making me both nervous and excited at the same time. I only hope that my expectations aren't too high, because this is one book I really don't want to be disappointed with. I'm pretty sure you'll love it as much as everyone did, Mel!

Great list! Okay, I'm off to go watch your vlog. :D

      3. Creepiness, I like that.
      6. The title and the cover, haha. Those were the two things that made me want to read it :p

  8. Lots of fantasy books there; your summer is looking petty epic. Happy reading, Mel! <3

  9. You HAVE to read The Final Empire, it's so amazing! If you like fantasy, especially epic fantasy, you can't go wrong with this one!
I haven't read The Diviners, The Winner's Curse and Graceling Realm series yet, but they've been on my tbr list for ages..
Great list! Have a lovely summer!

  10. I need to finally read a Brandon Sanderson book! I have the Rhithmatist but The Final Empire series sounds amazing. I also can't wait to read these Broken Stars. The cover is amazing. And I need to finally read Gracling, it's been on my shelf forever! Great list!

  11. I just need you to read FIRE and then tell me all your thoughts immediately. Which won't be hard because you will basically explode from feels. Brigan will cause swoons of epic measure. And Fire herself is flawed and wonderful and just AHHHH I cannot even with Cashore's writing. It's perfect.

  12. Great picks! I have Graceling and Fire sitting on my shelf...I completely forgot about them :O Those really need to be read this summer. I bought The Diviners on my eReader a few months ago and need to read that one too! The Winner's Curse is amazing so I hope you enjoy it! :)

  14. Ooooh! Your tbr is gorgeous. You have such a pretty accent btw :) And you look all cute in the vlog :D Anyhooow, I hope you enjoy the rest of Cashore's novels as much as you enjoyed Graceling and yasss! These Broken Stars--supposedly amazing and seems like it might be up your alley. So surprised you haven't read The Winner's Curse yet since it's like the fantasy of the year, right? :D Here's to hoping we both enjoy it :)

  19. What a phenomenal list! I've read some on this list but many of these are on my TBR. I loved the False Prince and Fire. I remember liking The Diviners also. It definitely has a creepy factor! And the Winner's Curse blew me away! I was not expecting that at all but it was so wonderful! Prophecy and City of a Thousand Dolls have been on my TBR for what feel like forever. I've heard iffy things about Prophecy, but I've heard almost nothing but good things about City of a Thousand Dolls. I definitely look forward to your future reviews! Great list!

  34. The Diviners was a fantastic read although a bit too lengthy for my taste. Also, The Winner's Curse is also on my TBR list.

    Happy reading, Mel! :)

  35. Oh yay the Graceling series! Fire was my favorite of the Cashore books, and I really did love all of them. Bitterblue had mixed reviews, but in my opinion, it was done very well. Bitterblue isn't a standard heroine and I loved how Cashore wrote her story.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY MISTBORN. You will love it and I MUST KNOW when you're done. It's amazing. Augh I can't wait. If you become a giant Sanderson fangirl, you can join our group of enthusiasts on Twitter. We call ourselves the #SandersonArmy. :D

  39. Fire is wonderful! I loved The Diviners and These Broken Stars as well. I haven't read Adorkable, but I've heard good things about it and enjoyed Manning's adult work Unsticky. And The Goose Girl is so good! Given your love of fairy tales and retellings, I'm sure that one will be a hit for you. I actually own all the books in that series but haven't read past The Goose Girl...guess I should do that haha.
Good luck with all your summer reading goals! :)

  41. I read a few of your picks here c:

    3. Looooved this one. It was totally atmospheric and I really felt like I was living in the roaring twenties. There's also supernatural elements which are seamlessly included to create a eerie and enticing mood. I also found myself loving the characters and engrossed in the mystery.

    4. This one was the perfect summer read! (: I loved all of the characters and the romance that happened between the main character and her love interest was too adorable. There was some conflict but it was realistic and made sense in the context of the story. It was a witty story while being incredibly organic and honest.

    10. Loved this one c: loved how this incorporated aspects of many genre: survival, romance and sci-fi. I found myself unable to put it down, I was so engrossed in the characters and their story. It was told in a duo POV but I felt like it was done extremely well and the transitions weren't awkward in the least.

    11. I did read this one, but from all the hype I suppose I excepted more, ended up giving it 3.5 stars. I feel like there's much room for improvement in terms of world bulding, history and culture in the following installments in the story. I however did appreciate how the main character was strong but not in your typical badass way and how engrossed I was in the main plotline.

Can't wait to see some reviews for these picks, hope you enjoy them(:

      10. Duo POV can be done really well.
      11. I like to have strong MC's without being kick-ass.

  43. Hey, don't feel bad about not completely your Spring TBR! It's hard to balance everything and still make time for new releases and such. Summer is a good time for reading so I'm sure you'll get in all the reading you wanted to! I loved These Broken Stars - it was so twisty and had some really shocking surprises, which is fun. City of a Thousand Dolls was a fun read, too. And that's the only two I've read from your list, but the rest are on my TBR as well!
