Yes, this is happening! I contacted Debz Bookshelf (who hosted this challenge for three years) if it was okay to take it over. I’ve never hosted a reading challenge before, so it’s all new for me and I will try to make it as fun as possible! Here are the details:
- The challenge runs from January 1st – December 31st 2015.
- The goal is to read fairytale retellings, but if you want you can also pick other retellings. Think about: mythology or myths & legends.
Here are a couple of books you can pick from: my bookshelf with fairytale retellings and Fairytale lists on Listopia. You can read Middle Grade, Young Adult and Adult books for this challenge.- Obviously, the book doesn't have to be published in 2015 and re-reads count.
- There are 6 different levels you can aim for:
-Prince Charming: 1 – 4 books.
-Magic mirror: 5 - 9 books.
-Big bad wolf: 10 – 15 books.
-The wise princess: 16 – 20 books.
-Wicked fairy Godmother: 21 – 25 books.
-Bluebeard: you are killing it! 26+ books.
- Every beginning of the month I will make a link-up post where you put all your reviews in and they will have fun/informative introductions.
- It’s not a promise, but there might be challenges.
- Most important thing: HAVE FUN and spread the word :) Let's tweet with: #fairytaleRC

Hey :)
ReplyDeleteThat's actually a great idea! I totally enjoy reading fairy tale retellings and I would be glad to participate in this challenge.
I want to ask if it's possible to join it even as an German book blogger. I try to write as many reviews as I can in English, but I think a lot of my reviews would be written in German. But if this isn't a problem I would be very happy to try to became "Bluebeard" :D
Kücki
Sure! Join the fun :D It's no problem if they are written in German :)
DeleteThanks :D So..I think I'm in :)
DeleteI'm going to creat a challenge page as soon as possible :)
http://kueckibooks.blogspot.de/p/themen-challenge.html Finally my challenge page :)
DeleteDon't forget to add it to the linky :)!
DeleteAw, yay :D Sounds like such a fun challenge. <3 I am not sure if I will sign up, but I do think I will. <3 as I am going to read some books that I already know are fairytale retellings, hih ;p anyway. YAY for hosting your own challenge :D You are awesome Mel. <3
ReplyDeleteI'd love for you to join <3
DeleteThis is exactly what I needed! I want to read more fairytale retellings next year but I didn't have a specific goal as to how many I wanted to read and stuff. I'll be sure to update my challenge page soon.
ReplyDeleteCool, welcome to the club :D!
DeleteI'm still deciding whether or not to do any challenges or not next year, but if I do I'll definitely be doing this one! I've got quite a few fairytale retellings sitting on my bookcase, so there's definitely a chance I'll do it! :D
ReplyDeleteYou're more than welcome if you decide to join ^^
DeleteOoh! This sounds like a lot of fun! I absolutely adore retellings and I'd love to read more of them, so I'm pretty sure that I'll be participating! :D
ReplyDeleteYeay, that would be great!
DeleteIt's so exciting seeing everyone announce the challenges!! SO COOL. I saw one about round-the-world and I seriously want to do that one too...and this. ehhh, I have to decide if I'm going to sign up! I usually bomb out of these things. >.> So I don't want to be annoying/disappointing. I'll have to consider. (There are such a lot of awesome retellings coming out next year and goodness knows I'm still behind on older ones I want to read!)
ReplyDeleteThat's the beauty of this, you can't be annoying/disappointing :D It's just for the fun! Even if you only read 1 book, you are still Prince(ss) Charming ;)
Delete*whispers* Is it too late to join?!!
DeleteSounds fun! I know how much you love fairytales, so you must be so excited to host this. Always fun to see the challenges start to pop up this time of year... Happy hosting!
ReplyDeleteI'm very excited yes! I'm already writing the link-up posts & I have so many fun ideas :D
DeleteI LOVE reading retellings! I'm definitely participating!
ReplyDeleteWoehoeeee!
DeleteI took part in a similar challenge in French in 2014, and lamely failed ^^ But it sounds like I might have a second chance in 2015 with your challenge! I'm definitely in :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the club :D
DeleteOh my gosh yes I'm so doing this!! Thanks Mel <33 I'd like to be The Wise Princess, but I think Magic Mirror is more realistic :)
ReplyDeletePerhaps it motivates you to read even more if you want to become the wise princess! It's great that you are joining :D
DeleteOMG!!!! This is an awesome idea! I LOVE fairytale retellings and they have become so popular in the past year or so. I'm so doing this!
ReplyDeleteWoopwoop, welcome :D!
DeleteAh, this is so awesome, Mel! And absolutely perfect for you ^.^ I will definitely be signing up - I haven't been reading enough fairytale retellings lately!
ReplyDeleteYeay, that's great Chiara :)
DeleteMy only suggestion is to not end the linky until the end of January. I do not join challenges until the beginning of January because I like to wrap up the current year before I announce my challenges for the next year so this challenge will be in my draft challenge post, but I will not publish or join until January.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip Rachael, I will make sure it's open until the end of January :)!
DeleteYAY for hosting a book challenge! YOU GO, MEL!
ReplyDeleteI've never done a reading challenge before, but this one actually seems doable for me :)
ReplyDeleteHow does one do a reading challenge? Do I have to make a page for it or can I just keep track on a goodreads shelf?
Normally you make a page or a separate post, but if you want to use a GR shelf that's fine too :)!
DeleteI'm soooo joining! There have been so many amazing sounding fairytale retellings out recently and more in the future and I definitely want to give them a read! This is going to be fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat Hazel :D!
DeleteWhoo~! Glad to see you picked up this challenge. I'll be sure to join it soon.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your introduction post :)!
DeleteI've just added my link and this is the challenge that I'm probably the most excited for! BTW, you have such a lovely blog son ew Bloglovin follower here! :DD
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment and follow :D
DeleteI'm doing this one. I did it last year, but joined later. Found a lot of Cinderella retellings. Can retelling of legends count as well?
ReplyDeleteYes! :)
DeleteI'm going for Prince Charming. Hopefully it's okay if I do a Peter Pan retelling as well. Thanks for hosting this challenge - I love fairy tales (:
ReplyDeleteOf course, everything counts :)
DeleteI'm excited about this! I think I'll go for the Big Bad Wolf. Hopefully I'll get my post up on Saturday. Thanks!

DeleteI love fairytale retellings, so thank you for hosting this! I've signed up at the Magic Mirror level, and I already know four of the (at least) five books I'll be reading, all coming out in 2015. I'm looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteNo problem, I love fairytales so it seems a logic step :D Good luck!
DeleteThank you for hosting this, Melanie! I just signed up at Big bad wolf. I love fairytale retellings, and I'm really excited! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm also very excited, good to have you!
DeleteHi Mel,
ReplyDeleteas I asked Kücki to inform me about some challenges she compets in 2015 she told me about your Challenge first and after a quick look, I decided to take part too. Right now I created an overview about all the Challenges I participate in 2015 but afterwards I will create all those update posts as well and then I will link it above. But I take part for sure and it is an awesome idea!
My reviews will be in German as well or they'll be bilingual if i read an English book. :)
xoxo

Hello Julia! You can add the link to your Challenge page, there will be a linky every month where you can add your update posts :) Welcome :D
DeleteHiii, I just started my blog and since I love fairy tales this is the perfect Challenge ! My reviews will be in portuguese so I hope that's not a problem :)
ReplyDeleteOf course not, you are more than welcome :D
DeleteHey Mel, may I just say, that I loooove the idea of reading retellings?
ReplyDeleteTherefore I'm going to participate, too!
My reviews will be in german, I guess :)
Have a lovely day ♥
Of course! And that's not a problem, welcome!
DeleteHi! I am SO EXCITED for this challenge! I love Fairytale Retellings!
ReplyDeleteI'm also very excited :D
DeleteThis is awesome idea! I have never participated in any reading challenge (beside general one on Goodreads) and this one caught my attention :) I need to sign up asap
ReplyDeleteThis is an adorable idea. I love fairytales and some retellings are fantastic. This is the first time I'm going to participate in a reading challenge :) I hope to get to level Magic Mirror or more :)
ReplyDeleteQuick question do novellas count? Or are they too short?
ReplyDeleteIf you want to count them, go ahead! :)
DeleteThanks :)
DeleteThis sounds like a great challenge. I don't normally read many fairytale re-tellings but I've enjoyed a few in the past so I'm going to try the Prince Charming level.
ReplyDeleteOh no... Have I just missed this? Can I still join??
ReplyDeleteYou can join until January 31, so you are still in time!
DeleteSo excited! I just added my link! Thanks for hosting this awesome challenge :)
ReplyDeleteI love this, I'm in! I'm aiming for Big Bad Wolf, 10-15. I have a huge stack of retellings on my shelf, so this is perfect. Also I have to say, I just found your blog and I, too am obsessed with Disney, fairy tales, and Harry Potter. Off to stalk you on Twitter. :)
ReplyDeleteHello instant-friend :D haha.
DeleteI would say this challenge is already a success. I'm number 108 on the sign up linky. I'm hoping to read many fairy tales this year. I read 16 last year.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first book challenge I've ever joined :)
ReplyDeleteI feel honored! :)
DeleteHi Mel! I'm the author K.M. Shea and I'm honored that you included my Beauty and the Beast retelling in your Goodreads shelf for this challenge. The rest of the books in my Timeless Fairy Tale series are also retellings so feel free to include those as well. I (probably obviously) love fairy tales, so I think a challenge like this is a fantastic idea! Please let me know if you want to host any giveaways as part of this challenge, as I would be happy to help.
ReplyDeleteThanks KM! I will keep this in mind and I might get it touch with you for the last months of this year ;)
DeleteI've just signed up for this challenge - can't wait! - and I've read 3 of the 4 books in K.M Shea's Timeless Fairy Tale series. I'd highly recommend them! I couldn't put them down :) Plus she has some great insights on her blog into the original fairy tales.
DeleteHey :) I'd love to take part in your challenge, but I'm a bit late getting around to it. The link up button is still there and says there is more time, but your post says sign ups have closed...can I still join? Sorry for the confusion!
ReplyDeleteYes, of course you can! I was planning to end the link in December, but someone made me aware it was better to pros-pone it to January :)
DeleteOh no! I'm all delayed and now the linkup is closed! Is it too late to join your challenge?
ReplyDeleteNo, you can still join :)
DeleteI just found this challenge today and I really wanted to join! I created an initial post for it:
ReplyDeletehttp://lizziethesarcasticblonde.blogspot.com/2015/02/challenge-fairytale-retelling-reading.html
I hope that it's still alright to join!
Sure! You are more than welcome :)
DeleteI'm coming in late, but can't resist this one. Thanks for hosting it. :)

Hi! I love fairy tale retellings and your challenge seems like so much fun! Great idea! I know it's late, but would it be possible to participate? Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteYes, that is still possible! :) Welcome!
DeleteI'd like to join the challenge! Hope I can still join. Here's my link: https://keeptalkingnerdy.wordpress.com/2015/04/27/fairytale-retelling-reading-challenge-2015/
ReplyDeleteWelcome! D:
DeleteI noticed that links are no longer being accepted, but I'd like to join since it seems retellings are regularly recurring this year! Here's my challenge page!
ReplyDeleteEveryone can join :)! Welcome.
DeleteHi, Mel! Is there anyway you could make a drop-down menu to link each month's link-up page? It's really hard for me to find the right pages sometimes.
ReplyDeleteThanks for running this - I'm having fun and I've almost met my goal already!
Oh, phooey. I managed to find the linkup pages for the months I wrote reviews in, but the linky widget is closed to new entries for all of them. Do I have to link in the month I posted the reviews, or can I stick several older in the current (or next) linky widget?
DeleteIf you want to find all the link-up posts, just click on the label 'CHALLENGES' and you get them on all pages :) You can add several older ones in the current widget!
DeleteI am done now:
