Reading & Blogging goals 2015.

This is also my announcement that I'm going on a short Holiday break! I will schedule my December recap on the last day of this year, but other than that I'm going to take some time off to spend a lot of time with friends and family. Merry Christmas and happy New Year guys! I look forward to another year of blogging.

I've been thinking about all the things I achieved last year and everything I want to do in 2015. I've come up with a list of blogging and reading goals.

-My Goodreads goal: not sure yet. I might put it on 120.
-I’m going to keep track of all the books I buy. I’m planning to buy < 3 books every month.
-I want to make a dent in my TBR pile. I’m participating in the TBR pile challenge like this year in the hope to reduce the amount of unread books I currently own. I’m only going to request/download books from Edelweiss and Netgalley if I really, really can’t wait to read it.
-I’m also going to catch up with series again. This year I’ve set my mission impossible on at least 10 series.

1. Jackson Pearce - Retellings (Fathomless + Coldspell)
2. Shannon Hale - The books of Bayern (Forestborn)

3. Marissa Meyer - Lunar Chronicles (Fairest + Winter)
4. Tina Connolly - Ironskin (Copperhead + Silverblind)
5. Marie Lu - Legend (Champion)
6. Alexandra Monir - Timeless (Timekeeper)
7. Dan Brown - Robert Langdon (Inferno)
8. Stefan Bachmann - The Peculiar (The whatnot)
9. Melina Marchetta - Lumatere chronicles (Froi of the Exiles + Quintana of Charyn)
10. Victoria Lamb - The Tudor witch trilogy (Witchfall + Witchrise)

-I want to read loads of fairytale and fantasy books, so I’m participating in my own challenge and Flights of Fantasy.
-I love re-reading and I managed to return to 11 books this year. I already made a list of books I want to revisit for the re-read challenge.

1. Juliet Marillier - Daughter of the forest.
2. Juliet Marillier - Son of the shadows.

3. Juliet Marillier - Child of the prophecy.
4. Marissa Meyer - Cinder.
5. Marissa Meyer - Scarlet.
6. Marissa Meyer - Cress.
7. Jodi Lynn Anderson - Tiger Lily.
8. A.C Gaughen - Lady Thief.

-I’m using my spreadsheet again to keep track of all the details from books I read. Here is a little sneak peek:
details

-I'm going to read all the books I want and try to be less influenced by the blogosphere. Sometimes I'm really excited for a book, but I don't read it because some people hate it. It's good to be my own judge every now and then. I might get surprised by a story.

-I’m planning to work with a schedule this year and I already started to create the basic outlines in an Excel file. I’m not sure what is going to work, but I plan to use Google Calendar more.
-I want to keep up with my vlogs and I definitely need to try some tags.
-I’m changing my posting schedule from 3 times a week to 2 times a week. Sometimes a bonus in the weekend, but I’m very busy at the moment. I talked about finding a balance and I have decided to use two evenings every day to to my blogging work and commenting sprees.
-I want to stay present on Twitter and try to talk with more people and I want to get to know my lovely blogging friends even better.
-I want to learn how to make better graphics.
-I want to keep posting discussion posts, so I need to make a list with topics I can use. The same for personal posts, like my monthly recaps.
-I want to make a big success out of the reading challenge I'm hosting.
-Keep having fun! Most important thing to me. I love writing posts and to come up with new content, I want to hold that feeling.

Personal:
-Keep pushing myself to do new things. Keep challenging myself. Let go of certain fears.
-Do all kinds of exciting stuff. I'm already planning some things, but those are a secret for now ;)
-Spend a lot of time with my loved ones and treasure those moments.
-I want to make a lot of beautiful memories!

What are some of your goals for 2015?

  1. A lot of our goals are quite similar! I'm not going to start any new series until I've caught up on a good chunk of the ones that I've started, otherwise those books will just get forgotten about. I'm definitely cutting down on the amount of books I buy too, I need to clear my TBR a little before I even think about buying anymore! Good luck on reaching these goals, and I hope you have a lovely Christmas and New Year!

    1. It's so hard to not-start any new series, but I want to find a better balance too. I can't wait to binge-read some series :D

  2. I should probably go with finishing series instead of starting new ones too, but it surely is tempting. As for myself, I'm hoping to read 200 books for the GR challenge and like you, I'd love to get better at the whole graphic business. You've participated in quite a lot of challenges, wow! Good luck on reaching your goals. I wish you a happy new year and Christmas. :) <3

    1. Almost every book is a start of a new series, it's so difficult!

  3. I love all of your blogging goals for the new year! I'm taking some time to reflect on my blog and am hoping to do a resolutions post for blogging soon. This was only my first year of blogging so I'm cutting myself some slack, but I really want to improve the blog for the new year! Good luck with all of your challenges and goals, I know you'll do great! :)

  4. I'm in awe of your organisation. It's hilarious because I just made a post about how 2015 is just going to be the year where I read anything and everywhere hahahahaha BUT GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR GOALS. Look at those spreadsheets <3

But yeah, I'm struggling with three posts a week as well and honestly, next year is going to be crazy for me so I'm doing what I can now and will probably jump down to two posts as well!

HAVE FUN ON THE HOLIDAY, MEL! Have a Merry Christmas! And a happy new year as well! <3

  5. I think goal-wise I'm having the hardest part deciding on my Goodreads Challenge, which is unusual. I think I'm actually going to set it lower this year than normal so I don't feel quite as pressured to read short, fast reads and so that maybe I can tackle some of the chunkier titles on my TBR. And tackling my TBR in general is definitely high on my priority list. Blog-wise, I want to get more active again and really make my blog reflect who I am...which I'm finding to be trickier than it should be.

Good luck with your goals! [:

  6. I love how organize you are. I wish I’m like that; I’m all planning but less on the execution. Well, good luck with everything; and with how well you thought these things, I’m pretty sure you can pull ‘em off!

  7. I love your plan to re-read the first three Sevenwaters books, obviously. Is it too soon for me to do a re-read? I finished the last one a few weeks ago, haha :P

Also, happy holidays! Enjoy your time off!

  8. Great Goals!
I wish I would be that organize! The only thing I planned for 2015 was to keep trying to blog in English and to improve my English. I really want to get more international. I'm also planning to read at least 120 books, hopefully English ones.
Haha, I'm participating in way to many challenges in 2015, but I'll try to complete as many as I can.
I'm really excited for the Fairytale retelling challenge, because there're so many good books comming out 2015 in this...kinda genre and I can't wait to get my hands on them. And maybe I'll be able to discover new books in this genre during this challenge.

Wish you a merry christmas! Enjoy the time with your family and your friends!

  9. Wow - you're so organised! I really want to keep a spreadsheet for my reading next year as I think it's a great way to keep track of all the books one has read. I'm also going to be participating in the TBR pile challenge because I really want to make a dent in my TBR pile.

Good luck with your goals and hope you have a wonderful Christmas! <3

  10. Mel, awesome goals! It looks like you have a really clear path of what you want your 2015 to look like. I also want to reread a lot of books next year. I'm starting university next year, so I think I'll have more time to read whatever I want! I like that you're going to try to be less influenced by other's opinions. And goodness, you're so organized! I definitely want to try to use Excel this coming year as well. Good luck with these goals, Mel, I'm sure you'll do fine!

  11. I think you did a fantastic job with your series challenge thing. I was very sucky at finishing series this year, but I did do an awesome job of not buying a lot of books this year. I think the last time I bought a book was during spring or summer. I can't even remember! I plan to keep up on not buying any books and just read the ones that I have on my shelves and Kindle. One of my goals this year was to finish my ARCs but that was a fail because I got so busy. On 2015, I definitely plan to narrow down my ARCs. I also plan to only post 2 times a week, 3 if I have time because I know I'll be even busier next semester for school. Hope you have a great Christmas and New Year's!

    1. That's great too! I hope to do a better job at not buying too many books this year.

  12. Awesome goals, Mel!! I want to talk to you on Twitter more!! I'm starting to connect with more blogger friends there too :) I love how neat and organized this all is, great job! I need to limit the number of eARCs I request, it's just so hard to resist sometimes. Ooh have fun with the rereads, that sounds like fun.

My goal is to comment on more blogs and make an effort to connect with more bloggers. I'm familiar with and friendly with lots, but few are in the super-close friend range. I want to fix that! I hope to schedule my posts ahead of time and have the whole month's posts planned out a month in advance. I want to fix up my blog's appearance and add some more features to it. Maybe start doing more monthly wrap-ups and TBRs. Also I want to start doing more booktube videos!

    Happy Holidays <33

  13. Good luck with your reading challenges! I just checked your page and you're joining a lot of them but I'm pretty sure you'll nailed them just like this year :) You're also very organized, Mel, I envy you for that haha.

Merry Christmas and enjoy your holiday ^^

  14. Looks like you have some awesome goals, lady! I think we'll be doing a few similar challenges - the TBR one, for sure, and I'm also doing "a series a month" challenge to read at least one series every month. That'll help with my TBR too.
I really need to get more discussion posts for my blog, but I find they're the hardest for me to write. :/ So now I've just gotten into a cycle of the same posts. I need to work on that for sure!

Good luck to you, darling and can't wait to continue blogging with you :)

Aw, yay. <3 Sounds like lots of amazing goals sweetie :D I hope you will manage to do all of them. <3 And best of luck reading at least 120 books :D I will put 100 on my goal, which I'm hoping to pass, hih. <3 Looks like you are reading a bunch of amazing books in 2015 :D I hope you will love all of them. <3 I hope you are having an amazing Christmas Mel :) And a good sort of blogging break, hih :)

  16. That is great that you have set some goals for yourself for the new year. I really wanted to reread some books in 2014 but that didn't happen so I hope I can make some great reading goals for myself as well.

    1. Go ahead! It's not my idea either, lots of people in the blogosphere are using book spreadsheets, like Debby@snuggly oranges!

  19. Wonderful goals, Mel! I really want to start keeping track of the books I buy as well, and maybe make a tally of my buy-to-read ratio. (It's not going to be pretty, but I still want to do it.) I also want to participate in your fairy tale reading challenge! I already bookmarked the page so I can add it to our 2015 goals post this January. :)

    Happy holidays, Mel! <3

  22. "Read all the books I want and be less influenced with the blogosphere.." ---> THIS!!
I love your goals! I a, going to try to read more series too. Also I'm going to start using spreadsheets. I started a few months ago and love it for my review books. Slowing down on requests for books can be really liberating. I'm gonna continue to do that and I think it's. Great goal! I've heard doc uph about Daughter of the Forest series.. I need to read it!
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! Have fun and be safe xo <33

  24. Such good goals for 2015! Personally, I don't do a lot of challenges because I usually feel restricted by them, even if my normal reading would meet it. It's silly, but I probably get in my own head. But we share many of the same blogging goals. I definitely want to use Twitter more and keep posting discussions/and invest time in some new features but whatever i do I want to keep having fun :) I can't wait to see what the new year brings! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Mel!

    1. It's so interesting to see how there are two different ways to look at challenges. Some feel restricted, some feel extra motivated, haha. You should definitely do what feels good to you & I can't wait to see your face more around Twitter :D

  27. I'm definitely planning to join your Fairytale challenge! I love retellings :) That spreadsheet is such a great idea to keep track of books, too.

  28. I hope you have a wonderful break Melanie, I love how organised you already are with your challenges for the new year, I also want to try and reduce my tbr pile, so will certainly be signing up to more challenges. Good luck with your goals :(

  29. You're always so wonderfully organized, I envy you! You accomplished tons in 2014 and I hope you can maintain that momentum in 2015 :D Best of luck with ALL your goals here ^^ I hope you had a fantastic Christmas and that you're enjoying your break! 30. Have a great break, Melanie. I think you made some wonderful goals. I'm trying to read some series this year too. There are a lot of series (especially trilogies) that have all the books yet, so it's time to finally read them all. Even series that aren't finished yet but have a bit out, I need to focus on too (for example, I'm almost finished with Cinder and have Scarlet ready to go). I'm currently hosting a giveaway for a couple of discussion posts if you want to come check that out, since you mentioned being interested in doing more discussion posts. I want to do more too!

  31. Love your series goal!! Oh my gosh, YES to Champion! I love that series so hard and I think you will love the final book! That series is so smart and takes YA dystopia to another level. Love love love! AND HOLLA FOR THE REREAD CHALLENGE! I totally plan on re-reading the Lunar Chronicles before Winter! I personally JUST started the Sevenwaters series and I saw on Goodreads (and your reread list) that you LOVE it which makes me even more excited!! :)

  35. Very organized! I had an Excel file for ARCs but I neglected it a little, I have to fix it and add some other things in there as well. Being organized is key. I even got myself a calendar for my blog this year. :)
Hope you manage all these, happy reading and all the best in 2015!

  36. Yay for organization! I have a spreadsheet for my TBR list because I'm horrible at tracking it on Goodreads, but I might have to try tracking stats on one. It would make things more efficient for end of the year wrap-ups, I suppose. I'd love to post more in general this year, or at least maintain my current posting schedule of about two/three times a year. I'd love to meet more bloggers this year too, which means I need go create a Twitter. Probably wasn't the best idea to go without one..... oh well. Good luck with your resolutions and happy new year!:D

  39. I hope you had a great Christmas, Mel!
I actually sat last night and made a list of books that I'm allowing myself to buy this year. I end up buying WAAAAY too many books, and there are over 200 books on my TBR bookcase.... So I'm limiting myself this year as well - also to save money!
I need to try and reduce my requesting on Netgalley & Edelweiss. But it's just so hard to ignore the lure of the books.
I really need to talk to people on twitter more and make some new friends, and also get better at commenting! Having fun is definitely the most important part of blogging :)
Good luck with your goals, Mel!

  41. I sincerely hope you had a wonderful and refreshing break for the holidays! I took one as well, and I don't think I would still have my sanity if I didn't. I'm totally on board with deciding on books myself instead of being influenced by the blogging world and reviewers. I have a bazillion books to read already, but what if I miss one that I'll really love?!

  43. Lovely goals Mel! I use an Excel spreadsheet for my blog calendar. It's much prettier than Google calendar, I can make notes in the margins, and it's prettier. I said it twice because that's important to me. :) You can download templates for things like to do lists and calendars, and I found this really pretty calendar that I can color code and things like that.

I also need to reread the Sevenwaters books. I just bought #6 but haven't read the other ones in so long.

Dedicating 2 nights a week to comment is a GREAT IDEA. OMG. I'm so horribly behind on my commenting. I might have to follow your example and go on commenting binges.
