When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world. As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.I started this book the moment I got it in the mail and I couldn’t put it down. Don’t ask if I like it more than Throne of glass, because I have an equal love for both series for different reasons. My review will be up closer to the publication date (okay, let's be real here: it's more the rambling of a raving fangirl trying to sound reasonable), but I already want to show you my ultimate cast in the hope to make you even more excited. I know I can't wait to get a published copies in my hands so I can re-read this. The prose, the world-building, the hot chemistry.. Okay, I'm drifting off. Here we go:
Director:
Peter Jackson. HELLO, look at The Hobbit and LOTR. He is amazing with his visuals and costumes. Sarah has the best prose in this book and I loved this new world. He’s going to rock this and I know he will capture the magic from the world-building and he won’t leave out any important details.
Actors:

Julien: Tamlin’s sarcastic best friend.
Jude Law. I think he will be amazing to put all that sass in this character. Plus, look at his face, especially when he has that kind of naughty look. Second pick would be Jonathan Rhys Meyers, because his face screams ‘sarcastic fairy’

Tamlin: ‘The beast’ who takes Feyre into his household.
Richard Armitage. Do I need to explain myself? I think he’ll be able to handle the complexity of this character, giving him the perfect balance between the ‘bad guy’ in the beginning and the person he is. Second pick would be Michael Fassbender.

Natalie Dormer. I have a girl crush on her and I think she’ll be perfect to perform this kick-ass, yet soft hearted girl. This picture is practically how I imagined Feyre.

Rhysand: A devilish handsome fairy that will surprise you.
Luke Evans. He is gorgeous and he has the voice for it. This is a character you are supposed to hate, but you can’t help yourself to fall in love with him. I think Luke is perfect to give that complex feeling to this character. Second pick: Tom Hiddleston.

Amarantha: The fairy in control.
Eva Green. Amarantha is a sick, twisted, brutal character and there is something about Eva and her previous roles that make me think she’ll kick ass in this role.
Eva Green. Amarantha is a sick, twisted, brutal character and there is something about Eva and her previous roles that make me think she’ll kick ass in this role.

Mila Kunis. This girl starts out as a pretty bitchy character, but you slowly figure out that’s only for the show. Mila has the ability to show both sides.

Emma Watson. The innocent, sweet sister who tries to make the best out of the situation. I think Emma will capture that fragile part.

Feyre’s help: In the castle there is a female fairy who helps Feyre.
She could be brutally honest and I think it’s a perfect role for Emilia Clarke.
She could be brutally honest and I think it’s a perfect role for Emilia Clarke.
He has an injury and that gives him the reason to stay at home and feel sorry for himself. Feyre is the one who keeps the family alive. I think I would really like to see Alan Rickman in this role.
What do you think about the casting? Would you like to see a movie with these actors?
I'm reading this right now, and I'm definitely liking your picks. As far as the characters I've met thus far in the story, you nailed it!! :)
ReplyDeleteSCORE :D
DeleteThis is so much fun! I haven't read the book yet, but I love that you chose Natalie Dormer and Eva Green - both actresses have such specific "looks" to them, and they seem to fit this type of world well. <3
ReplyDeleteI think they are perfect for this book!
DeleteThis post is so much fun! I could definitely see Natalie Dormer playing Feyre and Richard Armitage as Tamlin!!
ReplyDeleteThey would make such a hot couple :D
DeleteI just started reading ACOTAR, and I'm so glad I can match faces to the names!! Thanks for this, Mel, nice picks <33
ReplyDeleteIt is always fun to see casting ideas because then you have a character image in your head before you start reading! I cannot wait to get my hands on this one!
ReplyDeleteMissie @ A Flurry of Ponderings
I'm so excited for this book, so I'm glad to hear that you really enjoyed it. I always love a well written fairytale retelling. Peter Jackson would be an amazing director for any fantasy movie, and The Hobbit and LOTR movies have definitely proven that. As for the actors, I am sadly ignorant of actors, so I don't recognize a lot of these names...:(
ReplyDeleteAt least you could look at their pretty faces ;)
DeleteNatalie Dormer would be perfect for Feyre! And Eva Green as Amarantha! You've definitely nailed them all!
ReplyDeleteSuch a tease :) Ah, I am SO excited to read this book, release day can't come soon enough. Loooking forward to your review!
ReplyDeleteOH MY OH MY. Someone should employ you as a casting director. BECAUSE YOU KNOW HOW TO GET TO MY HEART. Um Jude Law? Yeah, you've got me. And I have a soft spot for Armitage as well!
ReplyDeleteWhy, thank you very much *flips hair*
DeleteI'm still waiting to get my hands on ACOTAR but I absolutely love your casting choices. You aren't the only one with the girl crush on Natalie Dormer and YES YES YES to Jude law!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to read ACOTAR this weekend, but what's funny is that I've cast Dormer as Celaena in my own fanciest for Throne of Glass :P And really Armitage and/or Law would be fab.
ReplyDeleteOhhh, I could totally see her rock in Celaena's role as well.
DeleteI can't wait to read this, it sounds so amazing and I loved the Throne of Glass series! And honestly, I really like your dream cast :D
ReplyDeleteGAH! I want to read this so bad, but this post is probably the 2nd best thing to actually being able to read the book - ha! Since I haven't read the book myself, I can't say whether or not the casting matches completely, but based on your descriptions it sounds you did a great job. :) Thanks for sharing and for getting me even more excited for this! <3
ReplyDeleteI love your cast for Feyre Mel! That smirk on her face is PERFECT and EVERYTHING. Yes, that had to be in all caps. ;D
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree, Eva Green will make the perfect Amarantha. She gives off that "I do whatever I want to get whatever I want vibe" effortlessly.
"I'm the ruler and you obey to me" look :D
DeleteI'm absolutely pining to read this book!! It's so exciting to see so many bloggers raving about it too - although I already know Sarah J. Maas can never disappoint! Your dreamcast is awesome - I know I'll be picturing many of these actors as the characters when I'm finally reading the book (especially Richard Armitage/Michael Fassbender - might as well mash them up into a perfect male specimen in my mind LOL)
ReplyDeleteHaha, that sounds like a handsome combination.
DeleteI'm not into making dream cast post because I don't know any actors hahaha LOL I'm so jealous you go to read it already huhu I'm waiting for the eARCs. But I did read the first few 4 chapters. I have a feeling I might not like it. The main character has the same persona as Celaena…this is like another Jennifer L. Armentrout book…ugh I'm so scared
ReplyDeletewww.lite-rate-ture.com
I can assure you that she's not Celaena 2 :)
DeleteGod,Melanie, this post is torture!I am already dying to read this book and I can't wait for the release date.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your review,Mel!
Ah I can't wait to read your review! Everyone's excitement about this books is making the wait so hard!
ReplyDeleteEm @ Books & Cleverness
YESSS I cannot wait to read reviews and to read this book, so glad to hear you've enjoyed it! This is a really vibrant cast of characters and you've cast everyone so perfectly. I love Natalie Dormer as well!
ReplyDeleteOoh, what great actors and actresses you've listed here--especially Jude Law, Emma Watson, Mila Kunis, and Alan Rickman! I haven't read this book, so I don't know whether or not they'd fit my image of the characters (hypothetically speaking), but gosh, if there was a movie with those actors/actresses directed by Peter Jackson, it'd definitely catch my attention, haha. Great cast list you've put together here, Mel! (And also: Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting on my blog!)
ReplyDeleteNo problem Taylor :D
DeleteNice tease Mel, I cannot wait for my pre-order to come now. They're so many characters and I love it, I love seeing different personalities jump from the page -- I've been reading too many books with 2-4 solid characters and it can get hella boring after a while!
ReplyDeleteAlso Richard Armitage, I love this man! He's actually from my home-town and although I've never met him it's a little exciting he's from here. I probably have the biggest girl-crush on Mila Kunis and I think the character you've been it definitely one she can portray pretty easily.
Totally awesome post!
That's cool! Imagine that you'd have walked into him :p
Deleteafjdkalds I am wickedly wickedly excited for this book. AND I PROBABLY WON'T READ IT TILL IT COMES OUT SO PPAAAAAAIN. *flails in the corner* I love the casting although I don't really know the book characters enough to put it all together in my head. But it'd be a very nice movie with these gorgeous people. x)
ReplyDeleteAnything and everything to do with Alan Rickman please.
ReplyDeleteAMEN.
DeleteI need to get a move on it and read the Throne of Glass series already so I can enjoy this just as much as everyone else! And though I'm not familiar with most of the cast, YES to Emma Watson and that hot guy at the beginning, lol. :)
ReplyDeleteI'M SO EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK, ASYHFJSK YOU LUCKY THING. It's always so fun to see casting ideas - a big yes to Natalie Dormer and Emma. I think I'm going to refer to this post again when I actually meet the characters so I'll have an image of them in my head and tell who and who I like.
ReplyDeleteEEEK, hopefully A Court of Thorns an Roses will be great.
Aw, yay :D Gorgeous movie casting post sweetie. <3 I love all the different actors you chose :) I'm so so glad you loved this book so much. Sigh. I simply cannot wait to read it :D Just wishing it was out already, lol. <3
ReplyDeleteMy Goodness I've heard nothing buy fabulous things about this book. Your choice of actors makes me really curious about this one, and I LOVE that you chose Mila Kunis. I adore her!
ReplyDeleteUh... small confession, but: I wasn't as excited as a lot of people for A Court of Thorns and Roses. >< It's weird, because I love fantasies with all my heart, and I know that Sarah J. Maas is an epic writer, but for some reason I just wasn't getting hyped up. (Not as much as I was for Six of Crows, at least. xP) But I'm really looking forward to your review now. Fangirling + me = best friends, lol.
ReplyDeleteAnd your dream cast is looking fab! Haha, I agree, Peter Jackson did a fantastic job with the LotR trilogy (The Hobbit was okay, but I preferred LotR a lot more), so if he directed any fantasy book to movie adaptation, it's bound to look good! JUDE LAW FOREVER. Naughty, mischievous face indeed. xD
And Michael Fassbender would be the perfect half-hero, half-villain! I don't know about Richard Armitage, because I only know him as Thorin, but I think Fassbender would do a great job -- look at him as Magneto! Lol, you're not the only one with a crush on Natalie. Ever since I saw her in Mockingjay I've been in love with her. Partly dying to watch Game of Thrones because of her. :P
I SAW EVA GREEN AND SQUEALED. That woman. IS PURE BRILLIANCE. I've only seen her acting in Penny Dreadful (do you watch it? It's pretty good, though a lot on the dark side), and she's badass as hell. And she has such a strong, intense gaze. I love it.
So... with Emma Watson, Emilia Clarke and Alan Rickman, I think I need to read this book now. Great post, Mel! You definitely made me a whole lot more excited! :D
Shame on you Meg! :p I know that most people aren't huge fans of The hobbit, but I like them more than LOTR actually. Jude really knows how to smirk. Armitage really works for me because he has that voice; it's so dreamy, haha.
DeleteHahhaa I would totally start this book the moment I got it in the mail too. I just read the four chapter excerpt and it ends with Feyre having to go with who I'm assuming is Tamlin and I waaaant to read more. But that's okay: I shall wait for release date :). I love the sound of your upcoming review - aren't those the best types anyway ;).
ReplyDeletePeter Jackson should make all the epic high fantasy movies. Or even the Game of Thrones director, though I know Sarah doesn't like GoT too much bc of the abundance of female but not male nudity. But he'd be good too at making the landscape come to life.
Ah, in the excerpt, I did not get to meet Julien. Hahahhaha I like the idea of Jonathan Rhys Meyers's face screaming "sarcastic fairy" though. Both actors are hot, but I feel like I've only seen them in really serious roles. I need to meet this Julien before I decide whether I agree or disagree with you :P.
OMG have you watched North and South? Richard Armitage is SO AMAZING OMG. I get that he's in the Hobbit too, but he's my first love from North and South, and I can't see him as a fairy now :(. BUT Michael Fassbender would make a good balance between bad guy and anti-hero --> he was awesome at that in Jane Eyre.
Natalie Dormer is so gorgeous. Totally makes sense because from that excerpt, she's supposed to be really skinny, right? Feyre? And ND is playing that woman in Mockingjay, can't remember her name, so I could totally picture her slipping into Feyre's character too.
Hahaha omg one of my friends described Tom Hiddleston as a sad panda after Thor and I can't look at him and take him seriously anymore, so I'll trust you with Luke Evans and Rhysand. That picture you chose of him fits perfectly with your description.
Ahh, yes, Eva Green. She does fantastically creepy really well, so if she's the antagonist... :)
That's Mila Kunis? She looks so different in that picture... Hmm, based off the excerpt I didn't think we'd see enough of Nesta, Elain and Feyre's dad for such big castings, but Emma Watson is doing Queen of the Tearling, so she might be willing to play a part if this movie were to ever come.
Mel, this was great! I can't say too much on the casting since I haven't gotten to read ACOTAR yet, but a movie with these actors would be AMAZZZZING. :)
Oh yes, the GOT director would be able to capture the environments, but I think Peter would make a better overall job. Julien is such an hilarious character, I can't wait for you to meet him! AND YES. North and South is one of my favorite things in the world. *swoon* Fassbender's Jane Eyre inspired me to pick him for this role :)
DeleteFeyre is supposed to be skinny yes, because her family is poor and she gives all her food to her family.
HAHA. sad panda, oh boy.
I guess you are right about the big casting. They do play a certain role in the book, but this is how I imagined they would look like :D
I love this post! :) I recently read A Court of Thorns and Roses and I agree with almost all of your picks. I think you especially perfectly cast Feyre, Nesta, and Feyre's father. I see Julien pretty differently, but I can't find an actor who fits my image of him.. Thanks for putting this post together!
ReplyDeleteOne of my associate reviewers has called dibs on all things Sarah J. Maas, so I can't really weigh-in on your dream casts picks as I'm not familiar with any of her characters. I can however drool over the actors pics. That has to count for something, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteCarmel @ Rabid Reads
I'm still yet to read anything by Sarah but seeing your early thoughts on this one have me very intrigued!
ReplyDeleteMands @ The Bookish Manicurist
So I finished reading ACOTAR and whole-heartedly agree with these choices!! Eeeek, Rhys <33 Eva Green is PERFECT for Amarantha. Dormer would be a great Feyre, and oh my... Tamlin as either one of those guys would be great :) Lovely picks, hun <33
ReplyDeleteRachel @ A Perfection Called Books
I would totally see this movie just for the amazing cast + director, haha!
ReplyDeleteI really cannot wait to read A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES for so many reasons. A retelling of Beauty and the Beast? Hells yeah. Sarah J. Maas? Hell yeah. And plus, everyone seems to be absolutely loving it, so I hope I am the same! Although, I must admit I am a little scared because I didn't even really like THRONE OF GLASS, but have loved each of its sequels more and more! Even so, super excited :D
Lovely fan casting, Mel! <3
This book comes close to Crown of midnight feelings-wise :D
DeleteI haven't gotten to my copy yet, but I'm so with you on all of these actors! I'd watch Richard Armitage do anything. :) Hopefully he'll be in my head when I read now!
ReplyDeleteI NEED THIS BOOK.
ReplyDeleteGah, Peter Jackson would be phenomenal, I can only imagine the world in his hands. Alan Rickman would be awesome to see too, even though I don't know the character xD Tom Hiddleston ;D
Omg you're making me so excited!! Squeeee! I absolutely can't wait until this comes out or until I can get my hands on it. I love the way Sarah J. Maas writes and these characters sound amazing. :O
ReplyDeleteAHH I WANT THIS BOOK SOO MUCH. I was trying to get hints about it from your descriptions of the characters :D So far from everything I've read I have figured out that: Feyre and Tamlin are the OTP, Tamlin's like mega hot, they have killer chemistry, but there's another guy in the picture I think. From all the gushing about Tamlin I've read I already love him. Can't wait to get my hands on this. This was a super fun post and I personally adore Emilia Clarke and Natalie Dormer so if there's ever a movie on one of Sarah's books I wouldn't mind seeing them in it.
ReplyDeleteYou've figured that out right :D !
DeleteNatalie Dormer for everything, pretty much!
ReplyDeleteThis casting is FABULOUS. Jude Law would make an excellent Julien, but I think Meyers and Luke Evans would make better Rhys, I don't know they just seem more than Hiddleston. I think if you switched Meyers and Hiddleson as seconds, I could see it more. That's just me though, haha.
ReplyDeleteRichard as Tamlin and Natalie as Feyre are just perfect. I love Michael in the X-Men movies and Natalie is one of my favorite female roles in GoT so she would make an amazing Feyre but I think Richard could possibly pull off the 'Beast' effect a bit better even if Michael has practice in the X-Men movies as being good guy first then bad.
Everyone else is also perfectly cast. As I said you did an awesome job thinking this over. I could easily see all these characters playing their roles on the big (or small) screen.
There is no Julien in ACOTAR. I think you mean Lucien
ReplyDeleteI read the ARC and then it was Julien :)
DeleteOK I did not know that. Thanks for clearing that up
DeleteJulien is the evil one from the past that was killed and his soul is trapped in his eye. Lucien is Tamlin's funny bestfriend
DeleteI definitely like it, I just think some of the actors might be too old to play the roles. LOVE Jude Law as Julien and Eva Green as Amarantha
ReplyDelete
