TTT 40. The 2014 releases I forgot to read.

I was actually surprised how many 2014 releases I read from my TBR list. I still managed to find 10 titles I desperately want to read. Let me know what you thought about them.

I bought copies from R.C Lewis – Stitching snow (yep, I’m ignoring the negative reviews), Stacey Jay – Princess of thorns and Claire Legrand – Winterspell, this is going to happen soon! I forgot to add Julliet Marillier - Dreamer's pool. One of my favorite authors, so I'm very excited!
I can’t understand why I still haven’t bought a copy from McCormick Templeman.
I wasn’t blown away by Strands as bronze as gold, but I’m still curious about Jane Nickerson - The mirk and mignight hour.
Kate Boorman – Winterkill has mixed reviews, but the cover reminds me of Red Riding Hood and I want it.
I wanted to read Tess Sharpe – Far from you for the debut challenge, but I failed and forgot about it. Sharon Biggs Waller – A mad wicked folly was gifted to me by Daisy for Secret Santa, so YES.
I’m not in love with the cover from Vicki Weavil – Crown of ice, but it’s a fairytale retelling. Beth Revis – The body electric, sounds great.

  1. Far From You and A Mad Wicked Folly are definitely on my wishlist. I'm sad I didn'gt get tor ead them last year, but I definitely want to. I'm waiting for the new cover of A Mad Wicked Folly to be released in order to get a copy, because I feel that the current cover has more of a contemporary vibe, and it doesn't make me want to read the book so badly.

  2. You have several titles that I have on my list, and several titles that I should have added! I really am interested in A Mad Wicked Folly. Also, Winterspell and Stitching Snow. I'm also aware of the negative reviews, but still plan to read it! I have the first book in the Sevenwaters Trilogy to read by Marillier and am really excited about that! @KatePoseyPhd

  3. There are so many of these I haven't read either but the one I have read - A Mad Wicked Folly - I can attest to its greatness. It was one of the most interesting historical fiction I'd read in a long time. Sharon Biggs Waller wrote the book in such a way that you as the reader really felt enveloped in this era. Plus, art history and suffragettes in Victorian England!

  4. I only read Crown of Ice out of these but I enjoyed it :) I also wanted to read Stitching Snow, Winterspell, A Mad Wicked Folly and Princess of Thorns last year, but it always seems like there are too many books, too little time to get to all of them...I wish we had magic and could use a Time Turner/TARDIS to read all the books we wish and not have to worry about work, school, eating, sleeping XD I hope you get to read all of your picks here asap this year Mel ♥

  5. I really want to read Stitching Snow. Surprisingly, I haven't actually read any reviews of it, but I don't let reviews influence too much if they are negative because I generally like books that a lot of people don't really like. Fairytale retellings are one of my favorite genres, and this one looks amazing. Also, I really like the cover, which totally counts for something.

  6. So many books on here that I intended to read as well, too many books get released that I'm never on top of my TBR list. WInterspell is sat on my Kindle waiting TBR, I might pick that up next

  15. Far From You and Stitching Snow were on my lists too, well, lists to read, so I'm pretty pleased to know I'm not alone on my not reading them. I really hope you get to them on day Mel, they've got some pretty pretty love. From the others, I've read none, sorry I can't be of more help to you there..

  16. Stitching Snow is a pretty slow read. I had to push myself through it. I really hope you have better luck with it! I'm dying to get to Far From You. The fantastic reviews that rolled in last year made me desperate to read it, and just like you, I forgot all about it.
I hope you enjoy them all, Mel! Happy reading :)

  18. Are these all your books for your fairytale challenge? :) I REALLY liked Stitching Snow but I seem to be in the minority, oh well. I couldn't get into Winterspell but I hope you enjoy it! That cover is so captivating. *stares*

  19. I've heard lovely things about A Mad, Wicked Folly, I hope you get to read it soon! Winterspell would be on my list as well, it just sounds so good :D Nice picks!

  20. The Body Electric is one that I recently heard about and definitely want. And, I've heard mixed reviews about A Mad Wicked Folly, but it still sounds like a cool story so who cares about the naysayers?!

  21. I was actually dying to read A MAD, WICKED FOLLY and WINTERSPELL too, but they just kind of slipped out of my mind. I read FAR FROM YOU, and it was alright. I think you can skip it in my opinion. And I really loved PRINCESS OF THORNS! That came out in December, so don't feel too bad for missing it in 2014. :D

  22. I need to read Princess of Thorns and I do still want to read Stitching Snow! I need to sign up for your challenge :) I have lots of fairy tale re-tellings planned for this year. Winterspell was just okay for me, so I am interested to see what you think.

  23. OMGGGGG. I'm seriously arm flailing right now haha. The Body Electric is SOOOOOOOO good. I just finished reading it last week and it is seriously amazing. So good.

winterspell and Mad, wicked Folly are also ones that I want to read so soon :)

  24. Dreamer's Pool made my list (but I got it for Christmas - yay!) Winterspell probably should have; I have the ARC but didn't get to it (my bad.) So many wonderful books, I just couldn't fit them all in!

  25. Ooh, some these would definitely be on my list too---Winterspell, Mirk and Midnight Hour, and Winterkill. You must read The Glass Casket and Princess of Thorns! Both so good!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. So many retellings on the list! None of which I have read either *hi fives* I do want to read them eventually though. One thing I do know about one of the books you haven't read is that Dreamer's Pool was really good! It's the only book you've mentioned that I've actually read haha (and the only reason I read it so quickly after buying it was because I was getting it signed soon after!!!)

I hope you get to read and love all of these soon!

  27. Dude I haven't read ANY of these either <.< I have a Mad Wicked Folly, Far From You and Winterspell on my shelf so I have no excuse to not get to them this year! I think I'll start Winterspell one of these days, actually.

    ReplyDelete
  28. ahh I have to read these too!!! ESPECIALLY winter spell (which I wanted to read during winter break but yeah) and Body Electric . .. I need to do a post like this! It looks fun and like a good idea :D I think I will... Great and I hope you get to read many of them this year! It's never to late, well imo it isn't ...if it was I'd be screwed! I don't read too many books of the current year when I think about how many I read and how many review books...it's weird. maybe cuz lots of them are graphic novels and I forgot to count those lol

    ReplyDelete
  29. Stitching snow is on my list too.
I read The Body Electric and Crown of ice and both were 5 star reads for me.

  30. I have heard amazing things about ALL of the titles listed above, Mel, but I haven't gotten around to reading even. One. :( I very badly want to get my hands on a Mad Wicked Folly, it seems like an absolutely gorgeous read. Great list :)

  31. Eeek! Winterspell! Reeeeead it. <3 Read it and love it. Oh, I'm nervous to know how you feel about it. I loved it so much. Sigh. And Winterkill! I adored that book so so much too. <3 And I loved The Body Electric as well :D I hope you love them all. <3 Best of luck at reading all these books Mel :) Happy reading sweetie. <3

  32. I have quite a few 2014 books on my tbr that I never got around to! So I'm impressed you did so well. I have not read any of these either, but I've been curious about most of them at one time or another. Especially Winterspell and The Body Electric, which I've heard great things about from various bloggers!

  33. I’ve read Far From You, Stitching Snow, and Winterspell. I LOVED Far From You and Winterspell, so I definitely recommend you end up getting those two :) Stitching Snow wasn’t my favorite, but I know I’m a black sheep for that one so maybe?

  34. I've heard really good things about Stitching Snow from some really hard core reviews. But, I have heard terrible TERRIBLE things about a Mad Wicked Folly and Winterspell. Sad though. I wanted to read a good book about suffragists and a good book about dancing mice. Oh my gosh. What if those two things could be combined? It. Would. Be. Glorious.

  35. Our lists are completely different, but I see lots of books on yours that I want to read. Especially Mirk and the Midnight Hour! Tammy @ Books, Bonez & Buffy.

  36. I'm sure that I had many 2014 releases that I didn't end up picking last year, Mel your list looks amazing though, I still need to read A Mad Wicked Folly and Princess of Thorns. I hope we both end up enjoying them. Happy reading! :)

  37. I've actually only read one of these myself and that was Far From You, which I absolutely loved. I hadn't expected much from it, I thought it was just going to be your average YA thriller. But it wasn't like that at all. Princess of Throns is one I wanted to try, but then the author had to cancel the Kickstarter for the sequel and that's made me nervous. If it's going to be an incomplete series then I am not sure I want to start it. We will see.

  38. I missed a lot from 2014. Like A Mad, Wicked Folly, which everyone seems to rave about - I hope you enjoy the gift - and Princess of Thorns. Just saw this pub weekly post about which books got starred reviews and Winterkill has a BUNCH (somehow doesn't surprise me to hear that among bloggers, though, it has mixed reviews. Seems to happen a bunch with literary vs. blogging community). Hey, it's totally okay to ignore the negative reviews. Stitching Snow might end up working out for you - aren't you the one who said that sometimes it's hard to predict your own taste? The McCormick Templeman book has such a cool cover o.o. I'm curious about that Jane Nickerson title based on the cover alone, despite what you said about Strands as Bronze as Gold.

I hope you enjoy Winterspell and Princess of Thorns soon! Both seemed to have gotten really good reception among bloggers :).

  39. Oddly enough I haven't read any of those! But I do want to read Stitching Snow and possibly Princess of Thorns but only if someone tells me it can be read as a stand alone.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Stitching Snow is one I really need to read! I'm with you, girl.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm really curious to see what you think of Winterspell. xD And I really really want to read Stitching Snow but the reviews have been BAD. *trembles* And I don't want to buy a book I might not like, so I'll probably just wait and see if my library ever buys it. >.> Gah. I don't take risks, I'm such a sad little melon. ;-)
I've only read 2 on your list, so I didn't do too well, did I?!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Bahahaha I haven't read any on your list. =P

A Mad, Wicked Folly and Far From You are definitely on my to-read list, too. I'm very intrigued by Winterspell.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I haven't read any of these except for The Body Electric which I just finished yesterday! It was really good and I hope you're able to get to it soon! :D

  44. Lots of retellings I see. Why am I not surprised? :)
I definitely recommend Princess of Thorns! It's a really fun adventure story with a swoony romance. And I know a lot of people didn't care for it, but I adored Stitching Snow.
Hope you are able to get to these, Mel!

  45. I totally forgot to put up Body Electric on my list because I have it very high on my TBR for January/February :) I wish I got to it before the year ended. Winterspell and Princess of Thorns both look amazing as well, must get them asap :)
    Happy reading!

  46. This is a great reminder to pick up Far From You which I purchased not long ago! I've heard great things and can't wait to read it. I think The Body Electric is one I would really enjoy too. I hope you can read some of these reads, Mel!

  47. I know A Mad, Wicked Folly received some mixed reviews, but I really enjoyed it. I thought it was really interesting to see a character moving against the rules of society for women, in more than one way. Plus, it was just fun to read! I hope you enjoy it!

  48. The cover of Stitching Snow looks awesome! (Yes, I judge books by their covers, hehe). I'm going to check that one out. Also Crown of Ice. Looks "cool". ;)

    ReplyDelete
  49. You must, must, MUST read A Mad Wicked Folly! I know you will love it! :D
Good luck with Stitching Snow - I really wanted to love that one, but alas, that didn't happen. The cover is gorgeous though!
I feel like you'll definitely enjoy Winterspell except for one aspect of it and Winterkill might be disappointing.

  50. You have to read Far From You! It's amazing! I completely forgot to add it on my list but I really need to read A Mad Wicked Folly as well. Everyone has been saying that it's amazing and I'm sure it would live up to my expectations.
